Travelers and residents on Kawaihau Road should expect traffic impacts starting Monday as Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company Inc. begins utility work from Kaapuni Road to Kapahi Road. According to Kauai County press releases, the project will improve local water systems by constructing new storage tanks and water lines.
The utility work is part of the Kapaʻa Homesteads Tank Project, which includes building two 0.5-million-gallon storage tanks and installing about 1,700 feet of waterlines. One-lane closures will be in effect on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. throughout December, and motorists should plan accordingly.
Parking will be prohibited in the work zones during these hours. Officials ask drivers and pedestrians to follow all signage and flaggers, and to use caution when driving over temporary steel plates.
Hawaiian Dredging said it aims to complete the project efficiently with minimal disruption and encourages drivers to allow extra travel time. Updates on the project’s progress and schedule changes will be provided to the public as they occur, weather permitting.
