King County deputies have recently uncovered a hidden cache of vehicles believed to be stolen, following what started as a routine patrol near Maple Valley. According to KOMO News, the deputy, while driving on the Maple Valley Highway, noticed suspicious muddy tire tracks leading uphill into the woods, prompting an investigative detour that led to the discovery of the encampment.

Further exploration led the deputy to an open gate with a broken lock, signaling clearly that something was potentially amiss. Sergeant James Ryan from the King County Sheriff's Office recounted to KOMO News, "When he saw that, bells went off in his head and he said 'I should go back and investigate that'." The deputy's intuition proved accurate as the subsequent investigation revealed that at least six of the vehicles stashed were confirmed to be stolen. The comprehensive status of the other vehicles remains to be determined.

In an alternative account from MyNorthwest, deputies encountered two men near a motorhome during the investigation. The individuals fled once they became aware of the deputy's presence. Despite the escape of the suspects, the deputies successfully recovered all the stolen vehicles at the scene, though the conditions thwarted any efforts to gather fingerprints effectively.

While the recovery of the vehicles marks a win for the owners, the suspects remain at large. "We want them to go out and do this self initiated activity, recognize those suspicious signs, and investigate them," Ryan told KOMO News, acknowledging the deputy's proactive approach.

According to a follow-up by KIRO 7, deputies were able to notify all the owners of the recovered vehicles. As this investigation continues, authorities are seeking any leads that could to potentially identify and apprehend the suspects responsible for the vehicle thefts and encampment.
