After a meticulous multi-year investigation, Larimer County law enforcement officials, in collaboration with the FBI, have apprehended Harold West, a suspect linked to the 2023 hoax bomb incident at the Larimer County Justice Center. The initial scare, which occurred on July 31, 2023, led to an evacuation of the Justice Center and a halt to court proceedings after a report of a suspicious device on the premises, authorities reported.
Investigative teams from the Sheriff's Office, with FBI support, pursued leads and analyzed evidence from the scene where the device, later deemed a fake designed to resemble an explosive, was safely contained by the Northern Colorado Bomb Squad. Found outside the courthouse, complete with wiring and road flares, the device had a deliberate design to sow panic and disrupt governmental operations, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. It seems that Harold West, acting to delay a scheduled court hearing that day, allegedly had as his goal the placement of the device.
On November 4, West was arrested and is now facing multiple charges, including Attempt to Influence a Public Servant, Possession of Hoax Explosives, and Obstructing Government Operations. Captain Bobby Moll, leading the LCSO Investigations division, underscored the importance of justice and the necessity of safeguarding it from disruptions. "Justice is a cornerstone of society, and protecting this process from disruption is extremely important to us," Moll stated, as per the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, highlighting the collaborative effort between local agencies and the FBI in bringing West to justice.
