Residents of Larimer County, it's time to guard your digital doorsteps and sharpen your skeptic's eye; scammers are out prowling the neighborhood. The Larimer County Sheriff's Office has raised the alarm on a series of schemes designed to part you from your money, and some might say, your peace of mind.
According to a social media post by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, the Sheriff's Office delineated a spread of deceptive stratagems. These include a Land Sale Scam, where impostors offer properties they don't possess, and a Rental Scam, which cons hopeful tenants with a deposit demand before they can even set foot on the potential home ground. The alert further warned against a Computer Pop-Up Scam, with menacing alerts that your personal info is compromised. To complete the quartet, there's the Bank Account Scam, which involves unsolicited calls with an urgency for you to shift your cash to a "safe" account. Don't let the supposed urgency cloud your judgment.
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office explicitly called out some of these fraudulent tactics, stating, "Here are a few scams recently reported in our area: Land Sale Scam – Fake 'owners' trying to sell property they don’t own. Rental Scam – Fraudulent listings asking for deposits before viewing. Computer Pop-Up Scam – Fake alerts claiming your info is compromised. Bank Account Scam – Calls asking you to move money to a 'safe' account."
