In a bid to ensure the safety of its youngest residents during the festivities of Halloween, the Las Cruces Fire Department took a proactive step by distributing free glow necklaces to trick-or-treaters across the city. As reported by the City of Las Cruces, these glow necklaces were handed out yesterday at various fire station locations throughout the day.
Designed to make children more visible during their nocturnal quest for candies, the safety initiative ensures that each little ghost and goblin can be generously spotted come nightfall. The free necklaces, limited to one per child, were available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and were offered while supplies lasted, highlighting a practical measure for accident prevention.
The stations participating in the giveaway included seven locations, notably Station 1 at 201 E. Picacho Ave., Station 2 on 1199 E. Foster Rd., and Station 3 at 390 N. Valley Dr., among others. The fire departments’ locations were also shared through the city’s announcement, making it easy for parents to plan a visit before setting out for trick-or-treating.
The inclusion of glow necklaces as part of the Halloween preparation underscores an ongoing effort by the Las Cruces firefighters to promote not merely a fun, but a secure experience for all. Children wearing these necklaces can affix them to costumes or dangle them around a wrist, thereby reducing the risk of accidents involving motorists or providing homeowners with better visibility of their approach. The glow necklaces are part of the wider safety campaign by the Las Cruces Fire Department, universally aimed at ensuring children of all ages enjoy a risk-free Halloween.
