Heads up, Las Vegas drivers. The city is gearing up for road improvements along Oakey Boulevard, and the orange cones are coming out next week. The Bulletin released by the City of Las Vegas indicates that from Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, through Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, motorists should expect lane restrictions between Las Vegas Boulevard and Silver Birch Lane. The renovations, accounting for utility work and paving, will condense traffic to a single lane for both eastbound and westbound journeys.
During the milling and paving phase starting Dec. 15, a portion of the road spanning roughly a quarter mile will be shut down for the expected duration of three weeks. Work is scheduled to occur weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., making mornings a bit of a hassle for those caught in the fray. Drivers are encouraged, for avoiding delays, to consider Sahara Avenue as an alternative route when zipping east or west.
Earlier phases of the project were not just about laying down new asphalt. Preliminary work has been wrapped up to bring sidewalk areas up to scratch with federal requirements for the Americans with Disabilities Act. This included reconstructing various concrete elements, like cross gutter, curb, and gutter – key details for those among us who navigate the world on wheels.
It won't just be the city workers out there; Amrize, Inc. has the reins on the construction side of things, contracting with the city for these improvements. An investment of $3.4 million, as the report details, drawn from Regional Transportation Commission fuel indexing tax, is flowing into this project to smoothen your drive and bring infrastructure up to date.
