Today marks the last opportunity to vote early before the Nov. 4 special election hits the final stretch. According to the County of San Diego, there are 68 vote centers ready to welcome you, in addition to over 140 official ballot drop boxes sprinkled throughout the county for your convenience.
All vote centers and drop boxes will swiftly swing open their doors at 7 AM on the day of the election and won't close until the last voter in line at 8 PM has cast their ballot. But don't plan to stroll in at 7:59 PM casually; no one will be allowed to join the queue after the 8 PM hard deadline.
"Once the voter registration is processed and the Registrar’s office confirms the voter did not vote elsewhere in the state, the voter registration becomes active and the provisional ballot is counted," highlights the County of San Diego. For those last-minute decision-makers, provisional voting's still on the table through Nov. 4 for anyone who needs to both register and cast a vote.
Technology-savvy or not, everyone can securely cast their vote, as vote centers offer accessible ballot marking devices that will allow you to select your candidates on a touch screen comfortably. Be sure to review your printed ballot before placing it in a secrecy sleeve and handing it over to a poll worker. However, remember that these devices don't actually store or tally your selections – that magic happens back at the Registrar's office.
The convenience doesn't stop with in-person voting; you can also rest easy and drop off your mail-in ballot. According to the County of San Diego, your envelope needs to be signed, dated, and sealed with your completed ballot inside. For those feeling spatially challenged, there’s a handy online locator map to find your nearest drop box, bearing the county seal and a bold "Official Ballot Drop Box" label.
