Travelers and residents in Lāwa'i may need to adjust their routes and schedules between November 24 and December 5 due to scheduled lane and road closures on Akemama Road, according to an update from the Department of Public Works. These closures, which are set to occur from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., have been adjusted due to inclement weather conditions.

During the earlier announcement on November 17, full road closure was planned for November 18 and lane closures were to happen on November 17, and between November 19 to November 21, however, now a full road closure is necessary for November 24, the lane closures are rescheduled to stretch across November 25 to November 26 and from December 1 to December 5, with a suspension of work on November 27 and November 28.

The closures are essential for public safety and will allow the Department of Public Works, Roads Division, crews to conduct crucial repairs on culverts and roads within the county right-of-way. Flaggers will be positioned at the work zones to help direct traffic flow around the closures, and no parking will be allowed in the affected areas.

Residents and visitors intending to travel through Akemama Road during these dates should consider alternate routes and plan for additional travel time due to the anticipated traffic modifications, as disruptions may impact daily commutes and transportation around the area. The Department of Public Works has asked the public to make the necessary arrangements to accommodate these changes.

For more detailed information or any questions regarding the scheduled work, concerned parties are encouraged to contact the Roads Division Main Office at 808-241-4847 or by email at [email protected].
