In a recent City Council meeting of Lawton, two local figures were spotlighted for their exceptional service to the community. The meeting, held on November 4, highlighted the contributions of one law enforcement professional and one impassioned volunteer, who both exemplified civic leadership.
According to the City of Lawton's official announcement, Detective Marcus Rucker of the Lawton Police Department was honored with the True North Award. Known for his integrity, leadership, and dedication, Rucker acts as a supervisor for the Criminal Investigations Division – Persons Crimes. Managing complex investigations, he is tasked with mentoring new detectives and holds several specialized roles within the department.
The other honoree, Mary Fountain, received the title of Citizen of the Month for her myriad contributions to the Lawton-Fort Sill community. Fountain, having graduated from Lawton High School and being among the pioneering students at Great Plains Vo-Tech, has a long track record of involvement with the Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce and various local non-profits. Her volunteerism, as reported, stretches through veterans' programs, civic committees, and local nonprofit initiatives.
The City of Lawton publicly commended both individuals, underscoring their roles in making a lasting impact on the local community. "Their contributions," the City of Lawton remarked, "are what helps to strengthen the fabric of our community."
