The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is setting out to boldly chart the future of black bass fishing with its latest endeavor. Anglers, guides, and conservation advocates are coming together to create the state's first-ever Black Bass Management Plan (BBMP), as the LDWF looks to enhance the stewardship and enjoyment of Largemouth, Spotted, and Florida Bass in Louisiana waters. According to the LDWF's announcement, the intent behind the plan is to secure the species' future and bolster the economic boost the sport fish provides statewide.

The BBMP's approach looks to closely involve its stakeholders at every turn. This includes setting up a working group made up of individuals who have a direct interest and connection to bass fishing. From anglers to tournament organizers, this group's collective experiences and insights are crucial to shaping the management plan's goals. The effort kicked off with an initial meeting on October 23, where participants convened to discuss the plan's direction at the LDWF Booker Fowler Fish Hatchery.

In addition to the Stakeholder Working Group, a statewide survey targeting black bass anglers is slated to go live from November 19 through December 1 on the LDWF website. The department hopes to gather a breadth of opinions, values, and priorities that reflect the bass fishing community's stance. This data is expected to heavily influence the framework and strategies of the BBMP.
