An incident involving a disturbance at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has led to a man facing multiple charges after he engaged in disruptive behavior while holding a newborn and allegedly assaulted a nurse. According to ABC6, the man, later identified as Asiakare Minor, was taken in for a medical evaluation after the occurrence, which has raised serious concerns about hospital safety protocols.
During the incident that transpired last Thursday evening inside University Hospital's Rhodes Hall, Minor pulled a nurse by her shirt collar as she attempted to secure the baby's safety. Staff and security de-escalated the situation, and the baby was thankfully unharmed.
The situation indeed was fraught with potential danger for everyone involved. "There's a lot of anger and sadness that this could happen to one of our own," said Bret Apple, first vice president of the Ohio State University Nurses Organization, as reported by 10TV. Charges have been filed against Minor for violation of a protection order, unlawful restraint, and assault.
