In a significant development in a decade-old San Francisco homicide, the District Attorney's Office has brought charges against Eddie Thomas, a 58-year-old man connected to the 2011 cold case in the Mission District. According to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, Thomas was charged with murder with a special circumstance of torture and elder abuse related to the death of a senior citizen, with the arraignment having been set yesterday.
The details of the case reveal a gruesome scene, where police, called for a wellness check, discovered the lifeless body of a victim aged over 70. Back in May 2011, Thomas was in custody, with the prosecutors aiming to keep him detained without bail considering the threat to public safety he allegedly poses. He's facing serious charges that include allegations of great bodily injury on an elderly victim.
At the crime scene situated on Folsom Street, the investigative team unearthed DNA evidence implicating Thomas, which was found all around the premises as well as on the deceased. While the formal charges have now been filed against Thomas, the San Francisco District Attorney's Homicide Unit has emphasized that the case is still very much active and in progress, suggesting that further information may still come to light.
