A man was found dead in a clothing donation box in Harris County after calling 911 on Monday morning, saying he couldn’t breathe. Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman said, "Even on the 911 call, he's heard saying I can't breathe, I'm having problems breathing," and authorities were unable to save him despite arriving within minutes, according to KHOU.
Arms of Hope, the organization responsible for the donation box, expressed their condolences, saying, "We are aware of the tragic incident involving a deceased individual discovered in a donation collection box. Our hearts and prayers are with the individual and their loved ones during this difficult time," as reported by KHOU. The case is under investigation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, and officials warned that donation boxes are not safe for entry.
Similar incidents in June 2025 and April 2022 resulted in fatal or near-fatal outcomes. Officials warn the public about the dangers of entering donation containers and advise those in need to use community resources. "Right now, we are still seeing families grappling with the effect of the shortage of SNAP and increases of prices we can all see," said Cris Cave from BakerRipley, noting more people, including seniors, are seeking help and can contact BakerRipley community centers or the United Way 211 helpline for services, as mentioned by FOX 26 Houston.
