Officers found an adult male with at least one gunshot wound and transported him to a nearby hospital; his injuries were described as non-life-threatening. According to KCRA, officers responded after reports of gunfire in the Kayak Alley area and located the victim at the scene. The station reports the man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and that investigators were on scene collecting evidence into the night.

Downtown Sacramento has seen high-profile gun violence in recent years, including an April 2022 mass shooting that killed six people and wounded more than a dozen; surveillance video from that night showed people running through Kayak Alley as shots rang out. That deadly episode intensified scrutiny of safety around K Street and nearby alleyways, according to KCRA.

Police also investigated an early-morning shooting in Kayak Alley behind Faces Nightclub this past August, when officers reported evidence of gunfire though no victims were immediately identified, according to a police media release covered by Public Safety News. The recurrence of shootings in and around alleyways that feed the entertainment district has kept residents and business owners focused on public-safety measures.
