Kenosha County authorities are actively searching for Jake Wenzel, a 29-year-old Antioch man, following a shooting incident at a local residence, as reported by the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office. Wenzel, who is viewed as "armed and dangerous", is accused of firing into a home on 268th Avenue in Trevor, Wisconsin. The incident took place late on Sunday night, and since then, there has been an escalating effort to locate the suspect, as per LMCS.
According to a WISN report, deputies stated that the shooting occurred after an altercation involving Wenzel, and before they arrived at the scene, a gunshot was heard. The victim, who had an encounter with Wenzel earlier that night, managed to park in her driveway and enter her home through a rear door, escaping potential harm. Moments following this, Wenzel arrived at the scene, confronted the homeowner's sister, and discharged his firearm at the house before fleeing.
Further details shared by FOX6 News reveal that Wenzel has a record of criminal activity, inclusive of charges for felony possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to distribute amphetamines, and involvement in attempted felony theft. Currently, Wenzel is out on bond, relating to felony terrorist threats, and there are existing felony warrants for his arrest.
Investigators were able to locate Wenzel's abandoned truck early Monday morning in the Center Lake Woods subdivision, and the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office is utilizing "Our deputies and detectives are using every available resource to locate Jake Wenzel and bring him into custody," as stated by Sheriff David Zoerner in a news release obtained by WISN. In the same statement, Sheriff Zoerner emphasized that "acts of violence like this will never be tolerated in Kenosha County." The community has been advised to stay vigilant and report any information that might assist in Wenzel's capture.
