A serious traffic collision at a Manteca intersection has left multiple people injured and under investigation by local authorities. The Manteca Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to an incident involving a van and motorcycle that resulted in grave injuries for the bike's rider and passenger, as well as discomfort for the van's occupants and another driver, according to a social media post by the department.
The crash, occurring at around 11:31 a.m. yesterday, involved a van attempting a left turn at the intersection of Main Street and Edison Street when it collided with a northbound motorcycle. The aftermath saw the van also striking an SUV at the E. Edison Street stop sign. Due to the motorcycle’s force, the rider and passenger were both thrown from their vehicle and, despite wearing helmets, sustained serious injuries. They were transported to a hospital but were conscious at the scene. Immediately after being hit by the motorcycle, the van collided with the SUV, whose occupants, including the driver, reported pain; the driver suffered head pain but was not transported.
Details of the individuals involved have slowly come to light with the van's driver and passenger both being in their 50s, although it's unclear how old the motorcyclist and their passenger are, or the SUV driver's age. The police are calling on potential eyewitnesses to provide further insight into the events leading to the collision. "The department asks that any witnesses who were not interviewed at the scene call the Manteca Police Department at 209.456.8101 to provide a statement," reads the call to action from the official police update. The case number to reference is 25-04987.
