The Manteca Police Department conducted a "shoulder tap" operation on Monday outside five randomly selected licensed establishments to prevent the illegal purchase of alcohol for minors. Cadets worked alongside officers, posing as underage individuals and asking patrons to buy alcohol for them, according to the Manteca Police Department's Post.
The operation took place at businesses that sell alcohol for off-premises consumption, including stores and liquor stores. The Manteca Police Department stated that during the operation, none of the people contacted furnished alcohol to the minor decoys.
The initiative is part of a greater effort, funded through a grant agreement between the Manteca Police Department and the California Department of Alcoholic Beverages, aimed at reducing underage access to alcohol. The department emphasized to the public that furnishing alcohol to underage people is prohibited.
The Manteca Police Department is conducting sting operations and asking the community to help protect minors. Anyone who sees underage people consuming, possessing, or being given alcohol should report it by calling 209-456-8101.
