The County of Maui received the Government Finance Officers Association's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its Fiscal Year 2026 budget. According to a November 4 news release, this award is a significant achievement that recognizes strong financial planning and responsible budgeting.
According to the County of Maui, the award recognizes budgets that serve as effective policy documents, financial plans, operations guides, and communication tools. The Government Finance Officers Association selected Maui from among more than 1,900 participants, noting that the county met the high standards required for the honor.
"This award showcases our County of Maui Budget Office’s commitment to excellence, integrity and transparency," Maui County's Mayor Michael Victorino beamed, shouting out to the financial gurus that crunched the numbers - "Mahalo to Budget Director Lesley Milner and the entire Budget Office for serving our community well," he elaborated in the same statement. According to the County of Maui, this nod from the GFOA isn't Maui's first rodeo; it's actually their 33rd award of its kind, suggesting that they've got this budget thing down to a fine art.
