As Maui gears up for an upgrade to the well-trodden main parking lot at Lower Pāʻia Beach Park, officials are setting the stage to mitigate any potential parking pandemonium. The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation is laying the groundwork for a temporary parking space adjacent to the soon-to-be renovated lot, according to a recent county announcement.
The existing lot, situated near the Pāʻia Youth and Cultural Center, will close starting January 4, 2026, for necessary repairs, but the beach park itself will keep its doors open to the public. Parkgoers will be directed to a provisional lot located to the west of the main parking zone. This interim solution is part of a plan to ensure access to the beach is maintained throughout the construction period, which is slated to wrap up by summer of 2026.
As per a statement by Maui County, "During main parking lot closure, the public may use the temporary parking lot to the west of the main lot." It's a clear message that while the main lot gets a much-needed facelift, the beach's appeal remains undisturbed.
