As the country pauses to honor the service and sacrifice of its veterans, Maui residents will find a number of local government offices and services adopting a different tempo for Veterans Day. According to Maui County's official announcement, there will be closures and schedule modifications on Tuesday, November 11, to observe the federal holiday.

Municipal services and recreational spots across the island are gearing up to temporarily shut down or adjust their operating hours. To properly prepare, here's a rundown of what to expect: All Maui County offices, pools, and the Lahaina Resource Center will be closed. Furthermore, expect to find doors shut at the Recovery Permit Center as well as the Kākoʻo Maui Relief & Aid Services Center, where Hoʻokumu Hou applications are processed. The Hāna, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi landfills will also not be operating.

Some services are adopting a condensed approach for the day. The Central Maui Landfill and Maui EKO Compost will open early but close up shop at noon, and the Olowalu Recycling & Refuse Convenience Center will operate from 8 a.m. until midday. However, it's important to note the unchanged services in the mix. Residential trash pickup and Maui Bus routes will function according to their normal schedules, ensuring essential waste management and transportation needs continue to be met.

After the country-wide pause to reflect and appreciate the nation's veterans, it's back to business as usual come Wednesday. Maui County has confirmed that all offices and services will be resuming regular hours starting November 12.
