As Thanksgiving approaches, the Michigan Department of Transportation is preparing for a busy rail travel period and will have representatives at the Capital Area Multimodal Gateway to provide tips to travelers. Last year, over 17,000 passengers traveled through Michigan during the holiday, and similar numbers are expected this year, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Amtrak’s nationwide ridership during the holiday reached more than 1.1 million in 2024, a 4.2 percent increase from the previous year. To support passengers, Amtrak is deploying staff including ambassadors and Red Cap service employees to assist travelers across the Midwest network, as reported by the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Amtrak’s Blue Water Service (train #365) to Chicago will be available for media coverage on Wednesday from 8 to 9 a.m. The train has modern Venture passenger cars with Wi-Fi and spacious seating. Michigan Department of Transportation and Amtrak remind travelers to book tickets early, as they sell quickly during the holiday season.
