Fog has enveloped much of the Memphis area, with the National Weather Service issuing a Dense Fog Advisory early this morning. Visibility has dropped to less than one mile in some places, making the morning commute a potential hazard for drivers. The advisory is expected to remain in effect until 10 AM CST, according to the National Weather Service Memphis.
Areas affected by the dense fog include portions of East Arkansas, North Mississippi, Southeast Missouri, and West Tennessee. Reported by the National Weather Service Memphis, under this veil of fog, the temperature hovers around 61°F with the humidity cranked up to 97%, giving early risers a moist and murky start to their day. Commuters are advised to drive with caution, slow down, and keep headlights on to ensure visibility on the road.
Looking beyond the fog, the weather forecast paints a rather wet picture for the remainder of the week. Thunderstorms accompanied by showers are on tap, with an 80% chance of precipitation on Thursday and similarly high chances through the weekend. The National Weather Service Memphis anticipates new rainfall amounts ranging from a quarter to half an inch today.
The weekend promises a brief respite with mostly sunny skies and a high near 70 on Saturday. However, the National Weather Service Memphis forecast warns of a 30 percent chance of showers returning Sunday night, with thunderstorms likely. New precipitation amounts are expected to be less, except in the case of thunderstorms where heavier rainfall can occur.
Over the next few days, daytime temperatures will be in the mid to high 60s, dropping to the low 50s at night. The National Weather Service Memphis says to expect a mix of rain, clouds, and occasional sunshine. I
