The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a man on Interstate 295, details of which emerged following a report detailed by the MPD's news release. The incident, which occurred on the evening of Saturday, November 22, involved a single car, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, that met with a tragic end on the northbound lanes just before Exit 4.
According to the authorities, the response to the accident was swift, with Seventh District officers arriving at the scene around 5:05 p.m. The driver of the Jeep, who has been identified as 60-year-old Jerome Bowman from Capitol Heights, MD, was the only person in the vehicle during the time of the crash. Despite the prompt response of DC Fire and EMS, who transported Bowman to an area hospital, he was ultimately pronounced dead as none of the lifesaving efforts yielded success.
The preliminary findings of the investigation suggest that the vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed and engaging in erratic maneuvers, weaving through traffic prior to the collision. The Jeep is reported to have crossed multiple lanes before it crashed into a jersey wall, leading to the catastrophic event that followed.
As the MPD continues to piece together the full picture of what transpired that evening, they are urging anyone with information regarding this incident to step forward. The police can be contacted at (202) 727-9099, or anonymous tips can be sent to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. As the investigation unfolds, the department is committed to uncovering how such a sequence of events came to pass, leading to a loss of a life on I-295.
