Miami Beach is set to celebrate local business tycoon and philanthropist Norman Braman with a street naming ceremony on December 1 at 10 a.m. The event, hosted outside the Miami Beach City Hall, is a nod to Braman's contributions that affected the cultural and civic life of the community. Braman's name will grace the stretch of 17th Street between Washington Avenue and Alton Road, an area that has felt the impact of his efforts, particularly through the introduction of Art Basel Miami Beach.

According to an announcement from the City of Miami Beach, Miami Beach Commissioner Alex J. Fernandez led the charge for the street naming, highlighting “Norman Braman’s impact on Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County is profound and endearing. His leadership has strengthened the cultural, civic, and moral foundation of our community – from safeguarding the memory of the Holocaust, to elevating Miami Beach onto the world stage through the arts, to championing excellence in healthcare and advancing good government.”

Braman made his fortune through a network of automobile dealerships throughout Florida, but beyond business, his philanthropic endeavors, such as his support for the Miami Beach Holocaust Memorial and the commissioning of public art—including the Minna sculpture in Pride Park—are well-known. Looking forward, the Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center at Mount Sinai Medical Center is expected to open its doors in 2026, further cementing his commitment to the health of the community.

"Mr. Braman is a self-made success story whose journey is the ultimate testament to the American Dream," Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner said, as quoted by the City of Miami Beach's press release. Meiner commended Braman's vision for bringing Art Basel, a global economic event, to the city, which in turn has provided numerous opportunities, including jobs, for the residents. In an expression of gratitude for the upcoming street dedication, Braman extended his thanks to the mayor and commission, saying, “Miami Beach is a community built on service, commitment and vision. It has been a privilege to contribute to its progress, and I remain deeply grateful for this distinction.”

The honoring of Braman with a street name aligns with Art Basel Miami Beach's kickoff, a world-renowned cultural event that owes much to Braman since he was instrumental in bringing it to Miami in 2002.
