The revitalization of Harrison Park is tracking along with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB), ensuring that the promised renovations to the public staple are to stay on track for its fall completion. The freshly minted full basketball court and multifunctional futsal soccer/pickleball court are now ready for local athletes and weekend warriors alike, even though the hoops and nets are slated to be installed come November.
Additional enhancements include new paths and lighting, bringing a much-needed facelift to the park's infrastructure. In a bid to truly greenify the place, the MPRB is also boasting a new established lawn that's no longer behind fences and a meadow teeming with native plants near the courts. Although would-be meadow admirers are advised to admire from afar for the time being, to allow the vegetation to take root firmly.
In a statement released by MPRB, further details about upcoming projects were shared. Starting next week, the playground and pavilion construction are scheduled to kick off. And for those wanting to roll up their sleeves and improve their community, MPRB is hosting a tree planting event on November 3rd. The gathering promises to bring together community members for an afternoon filled with gardening and refreshments, including light bites, lunch, and drinks provided.
MPRB is not only focused on the now but also on the future festivities. Plans for a grand opening event are already in motion, set to take place next spring. This event aims to celebrate the cumulative efforts and improvements with the neighborhood, school partners, and funders. "MPRB will co-host an event next spring with neighborhood and school partners and funders to celebrate the extensive improvements at Harrison Park," they revealed. Precise details will be shared once they are confirmed, solidifying Harrison Park's image as a hallmark of community efforts and environmental stewardship in Minneapolis.
