Minnesota's youth are about to get a taste of municipal leadership, thanks to the League of Minnesota Cities' "Mayor for a Day Essay Contest." The competition ignites the imaginations of students in fourth through sixth grade, offering them a stage to voice their creative solutions for their communities.
The premise is simple: young scholars are tasked with the question, "What would you do if you were mayor for a day?" According to a bulletin from the City of Brooklyn Park, participants have until December 12, 2025, to submit their responses for a chance to win a $100 prize, and, perhaps equally as enticing, a spotlight in Minnesota Cities magazine.
Submissions are accepted through various channels, which include filling out an online form, hitting the post office with letters addressed to 145 University Ave. W, Saint Paul, MN 55103, or emailing essays as PDF attachments to [email protected]. Regardless of the method, each entry offers a window into the perspective of tomorrow's potential leaders.
Winners will receive news of their victory early in January, offering a bright start to the new year.
