It appears that the Modesto Police Department is doubling down on its crackdown on retail crime with the return of its Organized Retail Theft Operations for a third season. In what is becoming a ritual as regular as the changing seasons itself, the department, buoyed by its partners, has declared another concerted effort to address organized retail theft in the area. The initiative, according to a social media post from the Modesto Police Department, has already found its footing.
With the support of local retailers and the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office, the operations have not only aimed to significantly reduce retail theft but have also been instrumental in the apprehension of suspects involved in much more than just petty crime. "Over the past two seasons, these operations have resulted in numerous arrests, large amounts of recovered merchandise, and stronger cases for prosecution," as reported by the Modesto Police Department. "They’ve also helped identify and arrest individuals wanted for serious crimes, including violent offenses and homicide, showing just how far-reaching the benefits of these partnerships can be."
Funded by the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC), this approach focuses on both building community ties and supporting law enforcement.
