In a recent move to honor military veterans, Montgomery County's Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has rolled out a special Ride On bus adorned with the stars and stripes of the U.S. flag, along with an illuminated "Operation Green Light" sign for evening visibility. According to an official announcement, the bus unveil took place on Monday, with figures such as County Executive Marc Elrich, County Council President Kate Stewart, and MCDOT’s Director Chris Conklin present.

The Operation Green Light Ride On bus sports a design that features an outline of veterans, positioned to not only show respect to those who've served but also to spotlight available assistance and resources. The back of the bus includes the Montgomery County Commission on Veterans Affairs website and resource line. As per the same MCDOT announcement, the initiative seeks to promote veterans’ welfare through increased visibility and accessibility of information.

Adding to the visual tribute, nearly 400 Ride On buses across Montgomery County will carry informational cards. These cards provide a quick link, via QR codes, and a phone number for veterans seeking help and services. The resources are accessible through Serving Together, a veterans service organization reachable at 855-738-7176 or by visiting the Commission on Veterans Affairs website.

MCDOT encourages the community to look out for photos of the bus on their social media channels or by following the #OperationGreenLight hashtag, for both information and opportunities to show support. Following the MCDOT’s example, passengers and passersby are welcome to share images of the patriotically-dressed bus, tagging @MCDOTNow in a collective gesture of acknowledgement and gratitude toward those who have served.
