A tragic incident occurred in Livingston Parish earlier this week when a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with another vehicle. According to the Louisiana State Police, the accident happened around 2:00 p.m. on November 2, on LA 43 near Haynes Settlement Road. The victim has been identified as 57-year-old Earl Duncan of Springfield, Louisiana.
The preliminary findings suggest that Duncan was traveling northbound on his 1999 Honda motorcycle while a 2024 Cadillac XT6, driven by an unnamed motorist, was also heading north and initiated a passing maneuver in a zone marked as legal for such an action. Unfortunately, Duncan's motorcycle turned left into the path of the Cadillac, causing a fatal collision. "For reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle turned left into the path of the Cadillac, resulting in a collision," as it was described by the Louisiana State Police.
Duncan was found with serious injuries and despite having worn a DOT-approved helmet, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, who was properly restrained in the Cadillac, did not suffer any injuries. At this stage, impairment on the part of either Duncan or the Cadillac driver has been ruled out. Nonetheless, consistent with procedure, routine toxicology samples from both parties involved in the crash have been taken for further analysis.
