The Metro Nashville Police Department swiftly ended an interstate search initiated by an Amber Alert out of Georgia, when they safely recovered a 2-month-old infant and arrested his father in Nashville yesterday afternoon. In events that unfolded with precision, Tariq Williams, 25, was taken into custody after he was located with his son, Roman Williams, in a parking lot on Nolensville Pike, near the Williamson County line, as reported by WSMV.
The Nashville authorities had to act quickly to ensure the child's well-being in what turned into a search that crossed state lines. The child's abduction yesterday morning followed a domestic incident where Williams reportedly assaulted the baby's mother and stole her vehicle, spurring an urgent Amber Alert. The silver 2017 Volkswagen Passat was later spotted in the expansive Kroger parking lot, which led to the successful recovery of the child and subsequent arrest of the father. According to NewsChannel 5, no injuries were reported during the operation.
Initial confusion was evident among bystanders as the situation unraveled. Mohammed Alfatlawy, an employee at a nearby Goodwill, was on break when he noticed the stark police presence. "I feel a lot better considering that they obviously caught him and the child is safe now and that there were like no fatalities or any guns involved or anything like that," Alfatlawy told NewsChannel 5, voicing the collective relief of onlookers once they realized the child was unharmed and the situation had been defused.
Georgia officials noted that Williams was believed to potentially drive to Florida with Roman. However, the Nashville police interrupted these plans to swiftly reunite Roman with family members. Williams now faces a myriad of charges including kidnapping, false imprisonment and theft, as reported by WKRN. The infant is now safe, and charges are pending for Williams.
