
The N.C. Department of Transportation released updates on safety, technology, and community awareness for North Carolina roads. Drivers are reminded that when they see flashing lights on the roadside, they must slow down and move over, as required by law.
The NCDOT Incident Management Assistance Patrol (IMAP) helps manage safety and traffic on the state’s highways. In the event of a crash, IMAP works alongside law enforcement, EMS, fire, and towing personnel. Their efforts help keep traffic moving and protect those on the scene.
Johnston County now has a fully operational regional transportation management center. Managed by NCDOT staff, the center monitors traffic in eastern North Carolina in real time and shares updates with drivers and emergency responders through DRIVENC.gov.
Tabor City recently held a street dedication in honor of Officer Shane Miller, who died in the line of duty more than 20 years ago. The ceremony, attended by Miller’s family and local officials, commemorated his service, as per the NCDOT. The dedication serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement in local communities.
The Ocracoke Express passenger ferry has completed a record-breaking this season, surpassing its 2022 ridership. The ferry carried up to 129 passengers on the 65-minute trip between Hatteras and Ocracoke’s Silver Lake Harbor. Offering a convenient way to avoid vehicle lines, the ferry allows visitors to reach the village quickly, according to the NCDOT.
