The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest's lush landscape has offered up a special gift this year, a 53-foot red fir aptly named "Silver Belle." In a festive swirl of activities, this Nevada native is the first-ever from the state to be honored as the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree and has just made a glittering stop in Las Vegas before heading to its distinguished spot on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.
According to a social media post from the Nevada Department of Transportation, NDOT was charged with assisting in the transport of Silver Belle out of the forest. This historic moment was celebrated by the community, members of the U.S. Forest Service, Smokey Bear and NDOT’s Safety Stan, in what was Silver Belle's final Nevada stop before the cross-country tour. The department expressed well-wishes for the journey ahead, "From starry skies to neon lights- safe travels, Silver Belle!"
The tree's arrival in Sin City was captured live and shared by the City of Las Vegas, as "Silver Belle" made her grand entrance. The city's social media post invited residents and visitors alike to join the celebrations that took place at Carolyn G. Goodman Plaza at Civic Center. The post declared, "Watch the celebration live at Carolyn G. Goodman Plaza at Civic Center, and help us give this Nevada native a warm Vegas welcome!"
