The Hawaiʻi Department of Accounting and General Services, known as DAGS, has started construction on a new base yard in Honokaʻa. This facility, reported to come with a price tag of nearly $8 million, spans 8,352 square feet and will include office space, storage, and specialized workshops for skilled trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.

The new base yard, set to replace an old warehouse, will provide more workspace for the team maintaining state facilities across the island. DAGS Comptroller and Director Keith Regan said the additional space is expected to improve efficiency. The project is scheduled for completion in about a year.

DAGS’s West Hawaiʻi District Office, which will operate the new base yard, plans to increase staff to eleven. Engineering Program Manager Ramzi Mansour said the Honokaʻa base supports state facilities across a roughly 110-mile stretch from Laupāhoehoe to North Kohala and Waikoloa, and the new location is expected to save time for staff.

According to the Hawaii Department of Accounting and General Services, Wesley Murakane, a third-generation DAGS employee, expressed pride in the new base yard, saying, "My dad would have been so thrilled and proud to see the new space come to life."
