New York Knicks' Josh Hart became a victim of theft when his duffle bag, containing watches and jewelry valued at approximately $185,000, was stolen from The Dominick Hotel in SoHo, as reported by ABC7NY. The incident occurred on September 5, when Hart left his bag in the hotel room around noon and, discovered upon his return about an hour later that his watch case, holding three watches and a bracelet, was missing.
Despite the ongoing investigation by authorities no arrests have been made related to the theft, and police have yet to release a suspect description, as stated in The New York Post, Hart had positioned himself as a significant player for the Knicks, having joined the team in 2023, and notably setting a franchise record for the most triple doubles in a single season just last year, which underscores the high-profile nature of the victim in this theft incident.
The Dominick Hotel, soon to be rebranded as Delano SoHo New York, a luxury condo hotel is known for its Five Diamond accreditation from AAA and features that include a seasonal outdoor pool, restaurants, a bar, and a banquet and event space, this according to the hotel’s website. Reactions among guests about the theft have been mixed, with Rob Saunders, a self-proclaimed NBA fan from London, expressing surprise at not having heard about the incident during his stay, describing the establishment as a safe and pleasant experience and Sarah Sellam of Paris sharing a less favorable view on the hotel, now further deterred by the news of the robbery.
This high-end heist comes against a backdrop of urban theft, including an audacious attempt to rob an 87-year-old man of his $48,000 Rolex just a day earlier.
