A heartbreaking incident unfolded in the Bronx when a newborn, tragically abandoned, was discovered in a trash can with his umbilical cord still attached, as reported by ABC7 New York. The baby was found in Olinville, left in front of an apartment on East 223rd Street near White Plains Road at approximately noon on Wednesday by a 71-year-old woman who stumbled upon the grim scene and made the urgent call to 911.
Responding swiftly, the NYPD officers rushed the conscious and alert infant in their patrol cruiser to Montefiore Medical Center; a video later emerged showing an officer cradling the baby while entering the vehicle the hospital later confirming the newborn was in stable condition while Claudette Tinnin, 28, identified as the mother living a mere block from the discovery site, was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, child abandonment, and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
The disturbing nature of this event raises deep concerns, particularly surrounding the circumstances leading up to the abandonment. The New York Post revealed that Tinnin was taken into custody some six hours after the infant was found and by Thursday, she remained hospitalized and awaiting arraignment, though details of her condition and the location or time of the birth were not immediately clear.
