The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has provided an updated traffic schedule for Sunset Road, revealing an ongoing endeavor to rehabilitate the pavement along this crucial stretch from Las Vegas Boulevard to Annie Oakley Drive, according to a recent announcement on their official website. The project aims to enhance the roadway's safety features and extend its lifespan, an upgrade set to impact traffic patterns through early January.
Motorists will face nightly constraints, specifically lane reductions, on Sunset Road to make way for these improvements every Sunday through Friday from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., starting on Nov. 24 and until Jan. 2, with no construction activity planned for the Thanksgiving weekend on the nights of Nov. 27 to Nov. 29; vehicles over 12 feet wide are advised to seek alternative routes in light of the restricted road space. Daytime traffic will benefit from multiple open lanes accommodating the area’s high volume, especially near the airport.
The federal government has invested $12.9 million in the project, as stated by NDOT, encompassing a comprehensive overhaul that includes not only paving but also lowering utilities, updating medians, and improving road-associated electrical setups.
With the looming construction activity, NDOT stresses the importance of caution and alerts travelers about potential delays, recommending that members of the public check nvroads.com or the 511 hotline for up-to-date highway conditions; further details and timely updates can be found on the department's social media platforms such as @nevadadot on X, Facebook and Instagram and @NevadaDOTVegas on X for more focused information pertaining to southern Nevada.
