In Bath Township, Ohio, an Airbnb rental became the site of a violent confrontation that involved multiple injuries due to gunfire. Early morning yesterday, around midnight, multiple 911 calls reported a shooting at a property in the 900 block of Top O Hill Drive, later identified as a gathering place for a party heavily promoted on social media.
The Bath Township Police Department was quick on the scene, finding that nine individuals had been wounded. Per News 5 Cleveland, the police have stated that the victims' ages ranged from 15 to 20. Despite the arrival of an extensive array of emergency services, including the Akron Police Department and the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the shooters had already fled the scene after having opened fire inside the home.
Information from a press conference held on Sunday morning by Bath Police Chief Vito Sinopoli was reported by WKYC, wherein it was shared that the large home had been rented through Airbnb illegally, breaching local zoning ordinances. While the extent of the injuries is still under consideration, some people fled, and others relied on first responders for life-saving treatment.
Chief Sinopoli stated, "The Bath Township community experienced a tragic and senseless act of violence early this morning," documenting the shock waves felt by a neighborhood unaccustomed to such events. Adding to the chaos was the uncertain number of shooters involved in the incident or what specifically sparked the violence. This was reported by WKYC, as no arrests have yet been made, with the investigation ongoing.
First responders tended to the victims before transporting them to the hospital for further medical attention. As reported by News 5 Cleveland, the details concerning any potential leads on the suspect or suspects remain scarce. The community awaits further developments as the police continue their inquiries into an event scarred by unwarranted violence and young lives disrupted.
