In a communal gathering on the banks of the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River, North Bend Mayor Miller designated Friday, November 14, 2025, as Arbor Day, prompting local celebration marked by planting activities. As reported by the City of North Bend, this day was set aside by the Mayor to recognize the significance of the town's foliage, with its forests and tree-lined streets framing the character of North Bend.
The event, organized by the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust (MTSG), involved residents of all ages in planting an assortment of native species in efforts to restore the riparian habitat along the river. Mike McCarty, the Principal Planner for the city, highlighted the collaborative effort with MTSG and stressed the importance of adding native plants to local landscapes, however, the management of the trees' role in beautifying communities includes parks and local gardens which can't be overstated.
The occasion reflected North Bend's commitment to urban forest management, a consistent practice that has earned the city "Tree City USA" status by the Arbor Day Foundation for 14 years. This non-profit organization, which boasts over a million members, aims to inspire and educate on the cultivation and celebration of trees.
