A North Ridgeville High School junior, age 16, was killed after an accident in which she was hit by a vehicle yesterday evening. Cleveland 19 reports the incident occurred near the intersection of Lorain and Cook Roads in North Ridgeville, Ohio, at around 6 p.m.
The North Ridgeville Police Department arrived at the scene and commenced first aid before transporting the girl to St John Westshore in Westlake. According to a FOX 8 News article, she was later pronounced dead by the hospital staff. The police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, which resulted in Lorain Road being closed for several hours on Monday night.
In the wake of this tragedy, the North Ridgeville City Schools shared a statement conveying the profound impact of the loss on the school community. Cleveland 19 obtained the statement in which the school district expressed that, "This unimaginable loss has deeply affected our entire school community, and our hearts are heavy as we grieve together."
The school district will offer a crisis team and school counselors starting Tuesday to support the high school students affected by the incident. "Please keep this student’s family in your thoughts and hold them close in your hearts as they face this devastating loss," the district urged in a letter, as reported by News 5 Cleveland. The community stands together to provide care, compassion, and support for one another during this difficult time.
