A critical water main break has disrupted traffic along Belair Road in Nottingham, forcing the shutdown of the major intersection at Dunfield Road. As per NottinghamMD, the northbound side of the road was closed at Dunfield Road, and the southbound was halted at Ridgelys Choice Drive. Diversions were quickly set up with northbound vehicles rerouted onto Route 43 and southbound onto Silver Spring Road.
Motorists found themselves in a quagmire as the ruptured 24-inch water pipe caused considerable flooding, and Sheena Molineaux, caught in the chaotic detour, stated, per WMAR2News, "When I tried to get back home, there was a no go, like all the way up to Belair and Dunfield I could not go," reflecting the widespread frustration among those affected. The extent of the damage indicates that repairs will not be straightforward, further prolonging the disruption.
Despite their efforts, there was no immediate timeframe available for when the broken main would be mended or when Belair Road would be reopened. As of the latest reports, heavy traffic delays remain to be expected.
