The holiday season is notorious for being a high tide of consumer spending, and alongside those waves of transactions comes a flotilla of scam artists looking to make a dishonest buck. The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning about the increased activity of scammers during this period, especially targeting the community's most vulnerable members.
The Sheriff's Office, through their TRIAD program, is taking steps to educate the public. TRIAD Director SSgt. Tara Hardin highlighted a specific scam in a recent social media post, cautioning that these criminals are getting more sophisticated in their methods. According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page, "The Christmas shopping season is upon us, which means scammers will be out in force trying to take your hard earned cash."
In a social media post, Hardin introduces the topic and promises to explore common scams in future discussions, while advising consumers to safeguard personal information, verify charities before donating, and ensure online purchases are secure.
