
Early this morning, a fatal crash on the east side of Columbus claimed the life of one person. The incident occurred around 2:18 a.m. at the intersection of Tussing Road and Americana Parkway. A 2011 Jeep Wrangler, heading eastbound, inexplicably drove left of the center line and collided with a westbound 2010 Mercedes-Benz E350 sedan.
The collision caused the Jeep to roll over, tragically leading to the partial ejection of the adult male driver. This individual was urgently transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital in a life-threatening condition and was later pronounced dead at 3:08 a.m. NBC4i reports that the Mercedes driver fled the scene before police and emergency fire services could arrive. The identity of the Jeep driver has not been released, pending confirmation and notification of kin.
According to 10TV, the Columbus Police's Accident Investigation Unit has swiftly responded to the incident. The intersection was temporarily closed to allow for a thorough examination of the scene, and it has since been reopened. The circumstances leading up to the Jeep veering off its path are still under investigation by officers.
