The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is putting a $50,000 grant where it's needed: the small community of Oran to help reinvent its wastewater system. This fiscal boost comes via their Clean Water Engineering Report Grant program, specifically designed to assist smaller communities in getting their public wastewater systems up to snuff.

Oran is setting sights on a thorough evaluation to figure out necessary improvements that will ensure the system remains reliable and compliant, as well as to cut down on stormwater sneaking its way into sewer pipes. According to the Department of Natural Resources, looking to complete this task by July 2027, it's not just about the here and now – it’s planning for what's coming down the pipeline, so to speak.

Fundamental to both public health and local economics, efficient wastewater systems are non-negotiable for community vitality, and Oran's not the first to reap the benefits of such funding. With these grants, small towns can deep-dive into the current status and future-proofing of their wastewater infrastructure. “Reliable water and wastewater infrastructure is essential for the sustainability of communities and industries as well as for the quality of life for all Missourians,” Kurt Schaefer said in a statement obtained by the Department of Natural Resources.

The Department of Natural Resources is providing both funding and support to help communities improve water quality, wastewater systems, and drinking water infrastructure. Its Financial Assistance Center works with communities that need resources for these projects. Some of the funding also comes from the federal government through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
