Heads up, commuters and night owls: major roadworks are set to reshape your travel plans on South Academy Boulevard starting Nov. 2. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced that overnight temporary full closures will be necessary due to the ongoing Military Access, Mobility & Safety Improvement Project (MAMSIP). These closures, designed for bridge expansion joint work, will affect both northbound and southbound lanes at different sections throughout the week.
For those needing to navigate these disruptions, detours have been meticulously planned. On Sunday, Nov. 2, from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., northbound traffic will be rerouted through a series of local roads to circumvent the closure between the CanAm Highway (US 85/87) and I-25. While the bridge work being performed on US 85/87 under the South Academy Boulevard will force traffic into a head-to-head configuration on the northbound lanes, a pattern change that's sure to challenge the nighttime drivers.
As reported by CDOT, closures will continue on Monday with the northbound South Academy Boulevard between the CanAm Highway and Bradley Road from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., followed by a southbound closure from Milton Proby Parkway to the CanAm Highway on Tuesday night, and finally, the stretch between the CanAm Highway and I-25 on Wednesday. Detour maps and routes are provided for each closure to assist drivers in finding their way around the construction zones.
