Palm Beach County in collaboration with the Riviera Beach Community Development Corporation (RBCDC) kicked off the construction of the Villas of Solana, an initiative set to provide first-time homebuyers with affordable housing options. A total of $1.5 million in HOME-CHDO funds are being put forward by the county to back the building of these residential units.
The development, once finished, will boast 14 two-story buildings and a cumulative 28 townhomes, an increased homeownership opportunity in a market that has been tight for many. Out of these homes, 10 will be earmarked for households with income up to 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), addressing the accessible housing gap. Every unit comes with hurricane-resistant features—a nod to modern construction standards and safety concerns. The homes, a mix of two and three bedrooms, all offer 2.5 baths, according to Palm Beach County's announcement.
Joseph Abruzzo, the Palm Beach County Administrator, underscored the significance of this project for first-time buyers. "This investment emphasizes our shared commitment to creating stable, attainable, and safe housing for first-time homebuyers," he stated, reflecting the county's endeavors to offer tangible housing solutions—stable and safe—in Riviera Beach, as noted by the same announcement.
Commissioner Bobby Powell Jr. spoke to the transformative potential of the development in Riviera Beach, citing its energy-efficient design and its proximity to local amenities. "For too long, access to affordable, quality housing has been one of the greatest challenges facing working families. This development will change that, offering 28 beautiful, energy-efficient townhomes that will give first-time homebuyers the chance to put down roots right here in Riviera Beach," Powell told Palm Beach County Newsroom. In Powell's view, such strides in constructing affordable housing not only change individual lives but also alter the fabric of communities, fostering balance and growth.
The Villas of Solana, conveniently situated by the Riviera Beach Marina and within reach of multiple parks and sports facilities, promises to deliver more than just roofs over heads—it aspires to secure long-term housing stability, with each HOME-assisted unit set to remain affordable for at least 30 years.
