
Tragedy struck early this morning when a pedestrian was fatally hit by a car in west Charlotte. The collision took place around 6 a.m. on Wilkinson Boulevard near the exit for Donald Ross Road, shutting down the inbound lanes of the thoroughfare. As reported by WSOCTV, the road closure ensued while crews worked diligently, immersed in the aftermath of the incident. There has yet to be an announcement regarding the reopening of Wilkinson Boulevard as the investigation is underway.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation indicated the road could remain closed past Donald Ross Road, perhaps until around 10:45 a.m. Caught in the wake of the collision, commuters found their morning routines interrupted, with the flow of traffic at a standstill, according to WCNC.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirms that the crash resulted in one fatality. As stated by QC News, the circumstances leading to the unfortunate event, including how many vehicles were involved, remain unclear at present.
