Over the weekend, Petaluma Police officers were called to East Washington Street to address a reported disturbance. According to the Petaluma Police Department, the troublemakers had vacated the scene by the time officers arrived. However, the peace was short-lived, as a speeding vehicle soon caught the attention of the law enforcement on Ellis Street.
The fleeing vehicle, a dark blue BMW, lost control and hit a curb. Despite this setback, the driver, Hector Reyes, an 18-year-old Petaluma resident, managed to evade officers momentarily before being caught at Ellis Street Apartments. His passenger, 20-year-old Sergio Mazariegos Reyes, attempted a foot-bound escape but was apprehended shortly after. Hector faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence, resisting arrest, and more. Sergio, too, faces charges for resisting an officer. The incident unfolded last Saturday, and the department's quick response led to the swift booking of both individuals into the Sonoma County Jail.
Petaluma's law enforcement encourages anyone with additional information regarding the incident to come forward. Officer Jeremiah Casey is the primary point of contact and can be reached at (707) 778-4372.
