Petaluma Police Department reported that after responding to the incident yesterday, they found the vehicle entangled with the railroad crossing arms. The person behind the wheel, a 17-year-old male, was not only driving while under the influence but was also embroiled in a recent petty theft from a nearby convenience store.
Following the collision, the minor, who was the only person in the car, suffered only minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital, the Petaluma Police Department noted. Earlier, having been engaged in thievery, he found himself in a twisted turn of fate when he ran afoul of the law in two distinct ways that evening. Recovering from the incident, he was cited for both the petty theft and for operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration that violated California's zero-tolerance law for underage drinking and driving.
The collision resulted in the juvenile being cited for petty theft and for driving with a blood alcohol concentration between .01% and .05%, Petaluma Police specified, adhering strictly to the legal provisions that underage individuals are forbidden from driving with any measurable amount of alcohol in their blood. Released to his parents, the youth now faces the looming consequence of potentially losing his license for a year under the State's stringent DUI laws for minors.
