A Pittsburgh police officer has been sidelined from his duties and is facing charges of assault, according to multiple reports. The incident in question involves Officer Adam Germeyer, 34, who was arrested on a Sunday morning after an altercation that allegedly took place along Eastmont Street in the neighborhood of Dormont.
WPXI reported that the incident began after Germeyer's wife attempted to drive away with their children following a night out. The confrontation escalated to the point where Germeyer is accused of pushing his wife to the ground, resulting in her sustaining a cut on her chin. Germeyer had expressed concern over his wife's consumption of alcohol and had attempted to prevent her from driving with their children in that state.
Further details provided by Pittsburgh Public Safety confirmed that the officer has been placed on administrative leave until further notice. A criminal complaint filed against Germeyer lays out the charges of misdemeanor simple assault stemming from the domestic incident, as detailed by WTAE.
The preliminary hearing for Adam Thomas Germeyer is scheduled for December, as per the criminal complaint.
