Sergeant Tariq Jamal-Francis of the Pittsburgh Police Department faces DUI charges for the second time in five years. As reported by Audacy, Jamal-Francis was found asleep at the wheel in Plum Borough, with his vehicle partially obstructing traffic. The concerning incident unfolded late at night last Monday.
According to the criminal complaint, the sergeant acknowledged to officers that he had been drinking at a nearby bar and was associated with the Pittsburgh Police. When tested, his blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit. These details align with those obtained by WPXI, which emphasized that Jamal-Francis' car was found near the intersection of Saltsburg and New Texas Roads, just a half mile from Shooti's Bar. While from Shooti's Bar, the officers were asked to leave, and no manager was present to comment.
This is familiar territory for Jamal-Francis, who, as WPXI reported, was convicted in a hit-and-run crash four years prior. The 2021 incident involved him rear-ending a vehicle, injuring Channel 11 News reporter Amy Hudak in the process.
Currently, the sergeant is on paid administrative leave, as confirmed by Pittsburgh Public Safety to WPXI. The department's command staff is "fully cooperating with the investigation." Jamal-Francis is expected back in court on December 17th.
